World Communion Sunday and Potluck, October 7, 2018

World Communion Sunday offers congregations all over the whole world a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm their oneness as well as to celebrate the global diversity of the Church.

On October 7, we will remember that we are a part of a worldwide family. We will celebrate inside a lovely sanctuary, but others will celebrate in a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or in a storefront. Christians all over the world celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith. We’ll sing songs and share liturgy with various international origins and flairs.

And then, after worship, let’s gather in the fellowship hall for an International Potluck! International? You know what to do. Bring something to share. Don’t overthink it. If you don’t know how to fix anything “international” just tell people yours is the American representation at the International Potluck and it will be just fine!
